March...Staying Calm with the Roaring Lion

March...Staying Calm with the Roaring Lion

Springtime is just around the corner. In March, the winds blow in like a lion and out like a lamb. We can feel tossed about in the swirl. This month, Grace's Goodness is recognizing the mental-emotional states of being, and more specifically how to ease the fire of the lion and calm the mind.
When the winds gust and almost seem to blow us over, is it possible to find stillness and calm in the midst of the roar?
In Chinese medicine, this contemplation connects to the pericardium and what’s known in Chinese five-element theory as the “triple burner.” The triple burner is correlated with an energy channel that get’s its name from having three heating sections, one in the head and neck area, the chest area and in the navel area. The job of the triple heater is to regulate the flow of energy in these three sections. The pericardium can be described as a membrane that encloses the heart.
This month let’s honor and feed the parts of us that regulate and protect the energies of the heart and help ground and calm the nervous system.

Daily Rituals
  1. Connect the mind with the body!
    1. If you are out for a walk, hike, run, bike ride, or even find yourself dancing, try finding a beat. For example, while running, count 1-2-3-4, as if you’re drumming. Let your body be an instrument of movement and reconnect with the breath as a way to sustain your energy and endurance.
  2. Learn an instrument
    1. Playing a musical instrument not only harnesses and focuses energy, but also engages both the right and left sides of the brain. It is integrative wellness combined with enjoyment at its best!
  3. Drink a hot cup of peppermint tea each morning!
    1. Peppermint tea is cooling, calming and is great for the digestive system. Drinking tea is also a beautiful, warming and nourishing way to prepare for the day ahead.
